Indranhean Buddihist Temple(Lower Pagoda)
Indranhean Buddihist Temple, built in 1958 with three-time renovation and
known as Lower Temple or Wat Krom, was named as of the name of the
first bishop, the first establisher. The today 6" bishop is Venerable Bun
Neng. The temple was built for dedicating to Buddha and inspiring inner
and outer peace. The temple includes structures called vihara, stupas,
library, dining room, and study rooms, and other facilities on the land area
of 7.7 hectares (excluding disputing land area of about 2 hectares) located
in Village 1, Sangkat 3, Preah Sihanouk City, Preah Sihanouk Province.
As stated in Cambodian constitution, Buddhism is considered as the state
religion with about 95% of population are Buddhists. Therefore, Buddha
temples have blossomed nationwide and Indranhean Buddihist Temple and
Choat Nhan Buddha Temple (Upper Pagoda) among 39 pagodas in
Sihanoukville, are the holy places for worshipping and visiting.
Biologically, Gautama Buddha was born in 563/480, got married to
Princess Yasodhara at the age of 16, became a monk and performed
torment for 6 years before attaining enlightenment under a Bodhi tree at
the mouth of the Nerunchara River, and died in 483/400 BC. He was also
known as Siddhartha Gautama in Sanskrit or Sidata Gautama in Pali or just
Buddha after the name of the Buddha as a monk, volunteer leader,
philosopher, teacher and religious leader who taught Buddhism. He was
believed to have lived and taught mostly in the northeastern part of ancient
India between the 6th and 4th centuries BC.
