Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS)

Sihanoukville Autonomous Port (PAS) is the only international deep-sea port located in the southwest of Sihanoukville,
Kingdom of Cambodia. The port is an important strategic gateway to boost national economic growth, with containers
passing through about 68% of the port market through international ports to the world market. Over the past five years,
the volume of containers passing through PAS has increased by an average of 13%. In fact, in 2021, the volume of
containers throughput was 732,387 TEUs, an increase of 90,545 TEUs, equivalent to 14.11% compared to 2020. 

  Apart from that, PAS also has great potential to contribute to the promotion of tourism in Cambodia. eal 2019, when the Covid-19 pandemic began to attack the global economy, especially in the field of tourism,
 the port received 48 giant cruise ships with a total of 52,479 international visitors and in later year, 2020,
the number of cruise ships arrived at the port was 18, with a number of 17,789 tourists, a decrease of
about 65% compared to 2019. The decline in the number of cruise ships was resulted from the outbreak
of the world health issue by the epidemic of Covid-19 and we all hope that the situation of the Covid-19
pandemic will be resolved soon while the efforts of expansion and improvement of tourism infrastructure
being considered by stakeholders such as ADB for the project “asia Pacific Project Preparation el Facility ~ AP3F for Cruise terminal with PPP scheme and we are on the way to be ready for a return to
normalcy in the near future.

   As the volume of containers throughput increases from year to year, PAS plans to build a new container
terminal, the first phase with a length of 350 meters and a water depth of -14.50 meters, by using JICA financing
with a total of 203 million US dollars. The first phase of the new container port will begin construction in late
2022 and is scheduled for completion in early 2025. The new container terminal will be able to accommodate
large container vessels with a capacity of approximately 5,000 TEUs (60,000 DW7).
